[BIOGRAPHY] King Sulaimon Alao ‘Malaika’ Adekunle

DSC_6854

Sulaimon Alao Adekunle Malaika, known to his fans and friends all over the world as Alayeluwa, Madiba, Jagaban Fuji, Ike Anobi, KS1 D Pride etc, hails from Ago Owu, in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun State, from the Western part of the beautiful country, Nigeria. He also has links with Ibadan, the acclaimed second largest black city in Africa and capital of the old Western region of the same country, through his mother.
Born and bred in Lagos, he grew up living at various times in Mushin, Oshodi, Agege and Lagos Island and was educated at Oyewole Primary School and Yewa High School, both in Agege, Lagos. An avid reader, he still goes after knowledge daily, though not through formal education right now.
A devout Muslim, he performed the Hajj in 1999 and later in 2005, thereby fulfilling one of the injunctions of the holy Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W).
Married to lovely women and blessed with adorable, bright and brilliant children, he is equally a loving, devoted, doting and caring but no-nonsense husband and father.

His Music
Prodigiously talented, Malaika’s music reflects the vision of the Yoruba race, a mission of restoration and championing the near forgotten Yoruba values and heritage. Anyone who listens to his music would readily identify him as an ambassador of first, the Yoruba race, then the Nigerian country and the black, Africa people.
When it comes to stage performances, he is not boring as he enlivens the stage with his fleet foot, thrilling his audience with delightful dance steps and professional band men. Beginning music as a Were singer, (Were is the early morning, Ramadan season chant, used to wake Islamic faithfuls), he graduated to the circle of music masters when he formed his first fuji band, the Tekoye Fuji Organization in 1985, though he’s had a group with which he sang ‘Were’ for some years before then.
One unique distinction about Malaika is that he did not train under any Were or Fuji musician, a further prove that his talent is celestial.

His Fuji Band
King Sule Alao Adekunle Malaika (KS1) is the leader and founder of the PRIDE OF FUJI BAND. Initially formed in 1985 and known then as the Tekoye Fuji Organization, the band’s name changed in 1997 to MALAIKA FUJI ORGANIZATION before the latest change of name in 2005.
The Pride of Fuji band comprised of about 35 carefully chosen professionals who are among the best, if not actually the best, in their line of business. They are led by Alhaji Abiodun Alashe Soaga, a vocalist while Alhaji Shola Arowoshaiye is the band’s General Manager.
Included in the band are 4 Instrumentalists, 4 back up vocalists and 18 percussionists. Other personnel includes a sound engineer, stage manager, logistics manager, three cash officers, a transport officer, two logistics officers and an executive assistant.
KS1 leads by example, a confirmation that he is a complete musician, as he also plays all percussions and is trying his hands on some string instruments.
He is an international musician. The Fuji star has traveled to almost 30 countries in propagating and marketing Fuji music to the world at large. Malaika who currently returned from his world music tour from United States of America and United Kingdom has won many awards.

Discography
From November 1993 when he went into the then highly rated Decca Studio (AFRODISIA) to record his debut album, MR. WONDER (released in February 1994), KS1 has continued to push into the market, highly rated, thought-provoking and danceable albums.
