(Sports News) Maigari Lobby Allegation @tj_shetade

Former Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari has been alleged lobby at the Minister’s office.

Two key allies of the ousted President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have intensified lobby to remain relevant in the scheme of things at the Glass House.

Maigari, it will be recalled was impeached last week Thursday by eight members of the 13-man Executive Committee of the NFF, raising fears about the future of his close allies in the scheme of things.

We gathered that one of the former President’s men who head a league committee was at the Minister of Sports office at the National Stadium on Friday “to pledge my loyalty”.

The Minister, Tammy Danagogo, was not in the office but the ‘August visitor’ was said to have told the Special Assistant to the Minister that he came to pledge his loyalty after the exit of Maigari.

The SA was said to have wondered why the former NNF Boss ally felt it was necessary to pledge loyalty, recalling that the same person a couple of weeks ago accused the Sports Minister of interfering in the running of football.

Also, another key ally who is a member of the three-man committee set up to negotiate with Stephen Keshi, was said to have called the Acting President of the NFF, Mike Umeh, telling him that “I am a team player” and ready to work to move Nigerian football forward.

“You can see that life is interesting. These men dined and wined with Maigari, but the moment he was impeached, they only escorted him to his car and returned to continue with the board meeting.

“It may also interest you to note that one of them, even told the cameramen not to film him along with Maigari after his impeachment,” an official who pleaded anonymity told Prompt News.

(News) Eid-Mubarak, Sultan Announces Sighting of New Moon

The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Abubakar Sa’ad midnight on Saturday announced the sighting of the new moon, indicating the end of Ramadan.

In an announcement on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Sultan said, “The new month of Shawwal was sighted in different places within Nigeria and therefore tomorrow (Sunday) is the first day of Shawwal equivalent to 27 July 2014”.

But, the Secretary-General of the NSCIA, Prof Isaq Oloyede, said he was not aware the moon had been sighted, saying the National Moon-Sighting Committee has not been duly informed and therefore, fasting should continue.

“I spoke to the Sultan about four times tonight and he did not tell me that the moon has been sighted. In any case, any such claim is ridiculous and unscientific. It cannot be right.

“The National Moon-Sighting Committee has not informed us of any credible sighting of the moon. Rather, they said the moon wasn’t sighted. The new moon was only born at 11:45 P.M. tonight (Saturday) and it will take several hours for it to be sighted.

“Is our own sky different? Is our own moon manufactured in Nigeria?,” Premium Times quoted Oloyede as saying.

On Friday, the NSCIA Scribe has issued a statement asking Muslims to look out for the new moon.

Mrs. Aisha Abraham, Executive Director, Secretariat and Services, Unity Bank Plc has announced the disengagement of over 170 staff members and recruitment about 300 new members of staff, mostly at entry levels.
According to the bank, the exercise is a bid to get the right size for its workforce and position the bank for sustainable quality banking services across its entire branch network.

The development is one of the key areas identified as part of the objectives that the bank’s just concluded capital raising exercise would address.

Mrs. Ibrahim explained that, “our people are our greatest assets. We consistently strive for training and rejuvenation of our workforce – constantly introducing a steady mix of promising young talents and experienced professionals.

“Our goal is to be able to offer quality services to our customers through a team of dedicated and resourceful staff at all times.”
She further stated that: “the quest for this has led the bank to carrying out structural and personnel realignments with decision making and service delivery processes running along strategic business units, a highly effective model that is business focused, leading to specialisation, better understanding of the market and responsibility accounting.

“This is a deviation from the traditional geographic business unit structure and is one of the changes the bank has adopted to ensure that it has a 360-degree view of the market and proffer solutions that fit its vision”.

Ibrahim also disclosed that the bank is driven by the vision to be the retail bank of choice in the Nigerian banking industry.

“With 240 branches spread across the country and Nigeria’s seventh largest bank by business locations, Unity Bank is one of the largest employers of labour in Nigeria and a major contributor to its gross domestic product (GDP),” she added.

Unity Bank recently declared a pre-tax profit of N7.9 billion, representing over 81 per cent increase in its half year unaudited accounts compared to the same period in 2013.
