Certificate scandal: ABU management confirms Dino Melaye graduated from the school

The dean of students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ahmed Tanimu, has allegedly confirmed the status of Senator Dino Melaye as a graduate of the institution

– Ahmed Tanimu calls on the campaign of calumny and falsehood against Dino Melaye to stop

– The dean says Dino Melaye and other student Unionists of ABU were back then, forced to graduate from the institution in the interest of peace

Alleged certificate forgery: ABU management releases statement on Dino Melaye’s student status

Senator Dino Melaye has been embroiled in certificate scandal after reports emanated that he never graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he attended his first degree course.

A statement allegedly from the management from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has confirmed that Senator Dino Melaye is a bonifide graduate of the institution.

Vanguard reports that the yet to be confirmed statement, however circulating in the social media and is claimed to be from the Dean of Students, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, Bar. Ahmed Tanimu.

The said statement claimed to be from the varsity don was alleged to have confirmed that Senator Dino Melaye is a “bonifide graduate of ABU Zaria who has his genuine transcript and certificate.”

The statement, if found to be true, could be a reprieve to Senator Dino Melaye who has been embroiled in certificate scandal since Sahara Reporters, an online media platform, published report that the lawmaker never graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he attended his first degree course.

The Senate ethics and privileges was on Tuesday, March 21, during plenary was directed to investigate the claim that Melaye does not possess an authentic first degree certificate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

NAIJ.com had also reported that Senator Melaye on Thursday, March 23 filed a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, Sahara Reporters.

However, according to the confirmation making the rounds on social media, the institution has said “Dino is a graduate of ABU Zaria.

See the full statement below allegedly from the institution, confirming Melaye’s status as a graduate of ABU Zaria.

“Dino is a graduate of ABU Zaria. I do not like him but the campaign of calumny and falsehood against him must stop. I recalled a meeting with the then VC, chief security officer Mallam Ashiru.”

“At the meeting it was resolved that all politically exposed students and unionist must be graduated for peace to reign in ABU.

“The VC started by asking me, the then SECGEN ABUSUG, when am I supposed to graduate? I told him I was only in 4 hundred level law then, he then asked after so many other commrades like Anslem, Chris, Ochums, Arokoyo, Ribadu, Renshaw, Kamal, Ntom, SB, Bright, Ganzi, Kombitel, Realman, Kurfi, Kabir Mustspha, Tijani Kabir (refused to graduate and 8 years later became NANS president), Precious Abdul, MB Mustspha, Dino etc……he gave a marching order that the Dean student affairs must ensure that our types are promptly graduated and leave the school in peace and in good time. Referring to all the so called elders and Unionist of ABU then.”

The case of Elder Dino as he then was, was even the worst. In truism, Dino never wanted to graduate from ABU. He was benefiting handsomely and almost feeding from Unionism like many Unionist, he deliberately kept having carry-overs so as to remain in ABU against the orders of the VC.

Trust the smart VC Mahdi, he ensured that Dino swiftly passed all his carry-overs. When Dino resisted that move by the VC, he was told by the Dean that the University has the power to pass and graduate any of it’s students if they are satisfied that such a student has attained sufficient learning or good character standing(whether he actually pass all his papers or not).”

“In Dino’s case, the emphasis was placed on his good character and not necessarily the waived passing.”

I repeat, Dino is a bonifide graduate of ABU Zaria, Department of Geography and Faculty of Social Science. He has his genuine transcript and certificate. He might have been exempted from NYSC as he was an adult even when in school.”

Meanwhile, Sahara Reporters has claimed that Senator Dino Melaye was impeached as the president of National Association of Geography Students in Ahmadu Bello University because he stole their brand new television set.

In a tweet on Thursday, March 23, the onine medium quoted unnamed classmates of the senator as its source for the information.

Ashley Cole mocks Arsenal over poor run of play

I still laugh at Arsenal - Ashley ColeThe former left-back rejected an offer from the Gunners and opted to sign for London rivals Chelsea and admits he takes pride in their struggles now

Ashley Cole says he laughs when his former side Arsenal fail because of the “lack of respect” they showed him as a player.

The former England left-back was in the Gunners’ youth teams before enjoying a long spell as a regular starter for Arsene Wenger’s side, winning two Premier League titles.

But Cole rejected a contract extension from Arsenal when London rivals Chelsea made an offer of almost double. Fans from north London held the decision against him, but as he went on to become a Champions League and Europa League winner while his former side have struggled ever since, it is he who has had the last laugh.

When asked on ITV’s Play to the Whistle if he found amusement in Arsenal’s pain, he answered: “If I’m honest, yeah, I still think to this day. I laugh to myself. I had a lot of history there and I think the way I left was maybe a bit dodgy but the lack of respect they showed me as well.

The development court the Senate attention Tuesday, leading to its decision to refer the matter to its Ethics and Privileges Committee for investigation ,when Senator Ali Ndume, APC, Borno South, brought up the issue during plenary.

The committee was directed to investigate the claim that he does not possess an authentic first degree certificate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

During the day’s plenary presided by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the upper legislative chamber decided to conduct the investigations, following a point of order raised by ousted Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, who noted that both issues, raised by the online medium, borders on the privileges of the senators.

Ndume, brandishing a copy of a newspaper which reported the alleged certificate forgery, said the reports have caused insults to be rained on the Senate by Nigerians.

“My colleagues that are following events, particularly online, have seen, heard or read the rain of abuses on this Senate and the misconception of the fact that we invited the Customs CG based on a very unpopular policy that affects the people we represent, but now we are faced with this and the president has been found to be involved in this National Assembly,” Ndume said.

Ndume also argued that there had been cases of investigations into allegations of certificate forgery by lawmakers in previous assemblies, citing those involving Hon. Salisu Buhari, Hon. Bello Masari and Hon. Dimeji Bankole.

“Here in the Senate, in the Fourth Assembly, (Evans) Enwerem was accused and it was also investigated, (Adolphus) Wabara was accused of collecting bribe and it was investigated and determined.

“Accordingly, I will appeal we refer the matters to Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate so that our colleagues would be cleared and this Senate will stand as it is supposed to,” Ndume said.

After allowing Ndume to raise his point of order, Ekweremadu referred the issues to the Ethics and Privileges Committee, which is expected to report back in four weeks.

Fenerbahce join Arsenal to sign Super Eagles Star, Etebo

Image result for eteboTurkish powerhouse Fenerbahce have  jumped to the front of the queue to sign  Leicester City  and Arsenal target  Oghenekaro Etebo from Portuguese side Feirense.

The combative  midfielder, who is expected to start for the Super Eagles against Senegal’s Teranga Lions in their friendly affair in London on Thursday, has been in sensational form for Feirense, becoming a cult hero at the 5,401-capacity  Estádio Marcolino de Castro since his arrival from Warri Wolves in 2015.

Etebo, who  has been likened to Manchester United  midfielder Paul Pogba  for his creativity  and combativeness, has been linked with Premier League holders Leicester  and  struggling Arsenal for a summer transfer.

But  reports in the Turkish media  claimed that Fenerbahce met with the player and his agent  in the Eagles’ Crowne Plaza Hotel camp in London on Wednesday and that the result was positive.

Some sections of the media in the European country had reported that Fenerbahce’s  representatives would  meet with  Etebo this month.

According to  Fotospor, the Yellow Canaries’ representative  Hasan Cetinkaya told Etebo the  plans they had for him and urged  the 21-year-old to join up with his compatriot Emmanuel Emenike, who has resurrected his career since he returned to the Istanbul giants after   a bad loan spell at West Ham.

Turkish Football said Etebo’s agent met with Fenerbahce and agreed a deal in principle, adding that the Fenerbahce only needed  to strike a deal with Feirense before a contract can be agreed.

Invest at home as a fall back…Ohanaeze tells Ndigbo

Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it will soon commence compiling the data of Ndigbo overseas and outside Igbo land with a view to ensuring their protection and well-being. It will also explore opportunities at all federal ministries and agencies with a view to ensuring their proper representation and fair positioning. According to a statement  by Chuks Ibegbu, national deputy publicity secretary of Ohanaeze, the President General of the Organisation, Chief Nnia Nwodo has called on Ndigbo outside Igbo land to invest at home as a fall back position. He also called on them to promote the Igbo language and heritage wherever they are. Nnia Nwodo “He also re-iterated the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and for federal presence in Igbo land, stressing that a situation where the South East has only five states and 95 local government areas is no longer tolerable. “Ohanaeze Ndigbo is dismayed by the recent utterances of the DG of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu, claiming the the group is opposing President Muhammadu Buhari. This is a figment of his imagination. Ohanaeze is there to protect the interest of Ndigbo and will always shout if Ndigbo are sidelined in the scheme of things. ”Ohanaeze has said anything that is not in the best interest of Ndigbo to the President. “It is very uncharitable for Osita Okechukwu to compare the immediate past regime of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and its decisions then with the position of its current leadership, ably led by Chief Nnia Nwodo. “As an Igbo son, we expect Chief Okechukwu to join Ohanaeze Ndigbo in its determined role to advance the Igbo cause. He should separate facts from propaganda.”

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday, approved N80 billion for the construction of roads in 12 states of the federation.

It also approved N150.84 million for the consultancy and engineering design for access roads 1 and 2  to link Asaba in Delta State, Onitsha in Anambra State and the Second Niger Bridge.

In the same vein, the council gave its nod to the construction of a 5km road to link Ring Road III to Wasa Junction with Karshi-Ara-Apo Road in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, at the cost of N2.454 billion.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, alongside Minister of FCT, Bello Mohammed and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, made the disclosures while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said: “The second is approval for 12 roads in various states.  The roads are at the cost of N80 billion.

“The approval is also for the engineering and consultancy design for access roads 1 and 2  to link Asaba in Delta State and Onitsha in Anambra State to link the Second Niger Bridge project.
