Trending: Mompha’s associate arrested in N1.8b Lagos home

MomphaTrending news have it that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Lebanese identified as Hamza Koudeih and two others suspected to be accomplices of Dubai-based Nigerian social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha a.k.a Mompha.

Operatives of the anti-graft agency arrested Koudeih after a three-hour stand-off at his N1.8 billion luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was learnt that he and his wife refused opening the door to their apartment and also refused responding to appeals by the building’s chief security officer.

The suspect who alongside Mompha and other arrested suspects are allegedly kingpins of a network of cyber criminals who laundered N33 billion through three firms, lived in an apartment which was fortified with triple reinforced fire-proof door and closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, making it difficult for the operatives to gain entrance.

However after EFCC operatives gained access into the apartment after trying to break down the door with breaching tools, his wife claimed that her husband had escaped through the window even though they lived in the topmost floor.

Koudeih was found hiding in the ceiling and a fire-proof safe containing different charms and talismans in calabashes was uncovered after a search was conducted in his bedroom.

“Our officials knew that he was still inside and they were even hoping to persuade him not to jump out through the window because it would be suicide,” EFCC Lagos Zonal Head, Mr. Mohammed Rabo, who confirmed the arrest, told The Nation.

Two luxury cars were recovered from the suspect who claimed the charms were his “prayer objects”.

Koudeih and his wife’s immigration status are currently being investigated. Local and international law enforcement agencies are said to have indicated interest to collaborate in the investigation.

The Lagos zonal head of the EFCC, Mohammed Rabo said the operation that led to Koudeih’s arrest was “an offshoot of the collaboration between the EFCC and the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),” but that Koudeih was arrested based on “purely EFCC intelligence”.

Rabo added: “Actionable intelligence received from local and international law enforcement agencies had revealed that Koudeih and Mompha alongside their collaborators are high valued targets in Organised Cyber Syndicate Network (OCSN).

“Investigations have also revealed that Mompha uses a firm known as Ismalob Global Investments Limited to perpetrate about N14 billion money laundering while Koudeih also operate two firms namely: THK Services Limited and CHK properties Limited to launder about N19 billion.”

An update on Mompha’s arrest also revealed that 51 bank accounts he allegedly uses for money laundering has been uncovered. The five wristwatches recovered from him after his arrest on Tuesday October 22,  has been found to be worth over N60 million rather than the N20 million earlier thought.

Trending: Barcelona vs Real Madrid Clasico Postponed Over Catalonia Protests

The Barcelona and Real Madrid Clasico, Spain’s biggest football league match, has been postponed because of Catalonia protests, the Spanish football federation said Friday.

The clubs have until 10:00am (0800 GMT) on Monday to find a new date for the match originally scheduled for October 26, the federation said. If they fail to do so, the federation will choose a new date.

The Spanish football league (LFP) on Wednesday said it had asked the country’s football federation (RFEF) to move the fixture from to Madrid after three days of large-scale demonstrations which have turned increasingly violent.

At last, Kogi Deputy Governor Impeached

Image result for Simon Achuba,The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Mr Simon Achuba, has been impeached.

Mr Achuba was impeached by members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Friday in Lokoja, the state capital.

The Majority Leader of the House disclosed this to reporters at the premises of the Assembly complex.

Mr Achuba was sworn in as the deputy governor on February 9, months after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He became the APC’s deputy governorship candidate in the election that brought Mr Yahaya Bello into office after a member of the House of Representatives, Mr James Faleke, rejected to be the governor’s running mate.

Years into the Bello’s administration, Achuba was reported to be engulfed in a disagreement with the governor, an issued which escalated with both sides trading blames.

In August 2019, Achuba raised an alarm of an alleged threat to his life and accused his principal of intolerance of contrary views.

He also criticised the administration for non-performance, claiming that was the reason for the rift between him and Governor Bello.

In a swift reaction to the allegations, the state government in a statement slammed the impeached deputy governor, saying he had no evidence for his claims.

The statement also said the government does not train assassins and cannot be involved in sending killers after anyone.

The issue got worsened days later as the State Assembly announced that it had commenced impeachment proceedings against Mr Achuba for criticising the governor.

Members of the assembly described the action of the embattled deputy governor as gross misconduct against Governor Bello and the people of Kogi State.

The Assembly had, thereafter, directed the Chief Justice in the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah, to set up a committee to proceed with the impeachment of Mr Achuba.

Displeased with the action of the lawmakers, Mr Achuba filed an application before the State High Court, Lokoja, to challenge the impeachment notice served on him.

Elsewhere, the leadership of the APC in Kogi suspended Mr Achuba from the party for alleged anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections.

The party also alleged that he took some actions which constituted an embarrassment to the APC family in the state.

Photos: Apapa Landlords, Tenants protest on the streets over EKEDP black out, Police, Navy officers attack on community members

DSC_0403The Landlords and Tenants Association of Nigeria, Oke Oja, Amukoko, Olodon, Awolowo, Cemetery and its environs came out massively yesterday, Thursday 17th October 2019 to protest against the electricity light black out in the area for over three months.

During the protest that kicked off from the Magistrate Court, Orege , Apapa where the Landlord had sued Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management (EKEDP) Apapa to court over in ability to provide electricity and pre-paid matters to the members of the community, bringing unaffordable electricity bills, arresting and harassing tenants with Police, Navy officers against whoever complains about the crazy bills.

Chairman of the Landlords and Tenants Association of Oke Oja Apapa, Godwin Monday revealed the reason they sued EKEDP is due to the fact that they have failed to provide pre-paid meter for the tenants and harassing member of the community that complained about the high electricity bills.

“This development is unacceptable.  Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management brings crazy bills without explaining the yardstick they use to measure the bills. Our members were arrested by Police while others were taken to Kirikiri. Mrs. Oluwakemi Akeem, Abibu Ismaeel, Azeezat Muhammed were brutalized when they complained about their services and high bills. We are very disappointed in Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management (EKEDP).

We have been very quiet about this issue for a while. The cheating is too much and unbearable again. We pay our money often before it expires. Yet we don’t get good services in return. Our light has been disconnected since three months ago, yet they are still bringing bills. What we are advocating for is pre-paid meters. There have been lots of extortion. And this people have lots of agents who would come to our people to collect illegal money. We want this to stop hence forth, Monday said.

Meanwhile, after the court hearing at Orege Magistrate Court, Apapa yesterday, the case has been adjourned till 22ND Tuesday October 2019.

We reached out to Eko Electricity Distribution Plc’s Management on 07080655555, one Mariam picked and noted that they don’t attend to complains. That we can send email to customercare@ekedp.com  . Since the time of filling this reports no cogent feedback has been received.

Image result for luka modricIt has been reported that Real Madrid face an anxious wait to see if Luka Modric and Gareth Bale will be fit for next week’s Clasico against Barcelona after both players missed training on Tuesday.

Modric and Bale each did gym work indoors as they attempted to recover from injuries sustained playing in the Euro 2020 qualifier between Croatia and Wales on Sunday.

It leaves Madrid uncertain over the fitness of two key players, with the crunch La Liga game against Barca at Camp Nou fast-approaching on October 26.

Wales coach Ryan Giggs said Bale was struggling with pain in his calf towards the end of their draw with Croatia in Cardiff but suggested the problem was cramp.

“Following the tests carried out today on our player Luka Modric by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a bruise in his right quadriceps,” a club statement read. “His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Real Madrid, who sit top of La Liga, play away at Mallorca on Saturday and at Barcelona a week later, with an important Champions League group game away at Galatasaray in between.

Lucas Vazquez has also picked up a knock and is unlikely to be available this weekend.
