NBC Bans Songs by Olamide, Davido, 9ice

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned five songs by major Nigerian musicians — Olamide, Davido and 9ice — having considered them offensive for broadcast.
The banned songs are Olamide’s “Wo” and “Wavy Level”, Davido’s “Fall” and “If (Remix)”, and 9ice’s “Living Things”.Image result for olamide picture

The corporation released the list Tuesday, saying it banned the five songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves, reported online news medium, Premium Times.
The Federal Ministry of Health had in a tweet on Friday, said the video to Olamide’s “Wo” violated the Tobacco Control Act.

The 28-year-old rapper, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, had returned to Ladi Lak in Bariga where he was raised to shoot the video of his latest single.
“This is our position: the video contravenes the Act. Innocently or otherwise, Tobacco promotion advertising sponsorship is banned in all forms,” the NBC said.Image result for davido pictures 2017

It could not immediately be ascertained why the songs of the two other musicians were banned.

This is not the first time that an Olamide song will be banned by the regulatory agency.
In 2016, just a few months after the ban of one of his songs, “Shakiti Bobo,” NBC also banned “Don’t Stop”, a track from Olamide’s fifth studio album, Eyan Mayweather, for its vulgar lyrics.

Defending the decision at the time, the NBC said the song was banned from being played on the airwaves for its “obscenity, being indecent, vulgar language, lewd and profane expressions”.
Rapper Falz had also in June, criticised Nigerian musicians who glamourise fraud with their lyrics, a criticism fans took to be directed at 9ice for “Living Things”.

The actor and rapper stated that the recent trend of hailing internet fraudsters in music was not helping future generations, as young people were beginning to see this as a normal way of life.

9ice set to release 9th album, ”Goat”

According to information at our disposal the album which contains 20 new tracks and 5 bonus tracks is titled ‘GOAT’, (Greatest Of All Time) and is expected to be released in this September. Politics: Hussain battles for Davido uncle’s Osun West senatorial ticket

Late Senator  Isiaka Adeleke  who was uncle to talented Nigeria song writer, singer and performer, David Adeleke also known as Davido died recently. All Progressives Congress (APC) the political party Adeleke came out from has nominated Senator Mudasiru Hussein to contest the party’s primaries for Osun West Senatorial District’s seat today in order to occupy the vacuum.

If he wins the primaries and the main election coming up next month , he will replace late Adeleke in Abuja. 

However, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday cleared Senator Mudasiru Hussein to contest the party’s primaries for Osun West Senatorial District’s seat today.
This followed the meeting of the NWC in Abuja, which reviewed the decision of the Appeal Panel, dismissing Hussein’s appeal on Sunday.
By the regulation of the party, the decision of the NWC is final.
“Therefore, delegates for the APC West Senatorial District’s primaries are to proceed to the designated centre for the exercise on Tuesday (today),” the NWC said last night.

The Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Osun West Senatorial District’s July 8 by-election has upheld the disqualification of Senator Mudashiru Hussain by the party’s five-man Election/Screening Committee.

On Sunday, the committee, led by Zamfara State House of Assembly Speaker Sanusi Rikiji, said Hussain was disqualified because he failed to tender his resignation letter as a serving commissioner within 30 days before the expression of his interest to contest for the senatorial seat.

Hussain challenged the panel’s decision at the party’s Appeal Committee but failed to stop his disqualification.

The Appeal Committee, led by Abdullahi Bello, noted that after going through the report of the Election/Screening Committee, “it did not find it difficult to assume the following questions:

  • “Whether the petitioner (Hussain) resigned within 30 days, as envisaged by law;
  • “Whether the petitioner’s resignation letter, as attached during the defence of his letter dated June 6, complied with the 30 days, as required by law, and
  • “Whether the Screening Committee was right by disqualifying the petitioner, based on his status as an appointed serving commissioner in Osun State.”

According to the Appeal Committee, issues during the screening bordered on law and the provision of the constitution.

It said failure of this was weighty and cannot be dismissed.

The committee said: “During the petitioner’s appearance before this committee, he confessed that his nomination form did not satisfy the full requirements of a legal document which could stand him for election.

“An objective view of the petitioner’s nomination form for his primary election was not duly sworn to before a Magistrate or a Notary Public and his failure to do this constitutes an incurable defect.

“The purpose for which a party’s nomination form is procured is to be seen to comply with guidelines and rules of engagement. Thus, it is our view that all its contents must be complied with.

“If the makers of the nomination form believe that the last paragraph of the form of the petitioner is of no value or of consequence, such provision will not have been provided therein. Thus, the failure of the petitioner to submit his nomination form for the purpose of certification and oath before a Magistrate or a Notary Public is fatal to his cause.

“We, therefore, hold that even if the petitioner is not a public officer, as canvassed by him, his resignation letter should have been necessary. Therefore, having resigned on June 6 fell short of the 30 days’ requirements of the law.

“Upon the above considerations, the appeal for reconsideration and reversal as presented by Senator Mudashiru Hussain lack merit and is hereby dismissed. Consequently, the disqualification of Senator Mudsshiru Hussain by the five-man Election/Screening Committee for the Osun West Senatorial District primary election of the APC is hereby upheld.”

Also, the primary election to choose a flagbearer of the APC for the July 8 by-election for Osun West Senatorial seat scheduled to hold yesterday was postponed till today.

A three-man Appeal Team, led by a former deputy governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, on Sunday dismissed an appeal filed by Hussain, one of the two aspirants for the seat.

The chairman of the APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, urged the party’s delegates from the 10 local government areas of the district to remain calm and prepare for the primary election.

Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, aka #Davido, has embarked on building a decent house for the mother of Utibe, the boy that sang If.

Utibe was the young boy who arrested Davido’s attention when he was featured singing the musician’s hit song, ‘If.’

Utibe had been out of school and only passed the time miming songs.

A concerned neighbour had taken a liking to the boy, and uploaded him singing the musician’s song on the Instagram.

Davido became interested, and upon learning that the young boy was unable to enrol in school for lack of money, he offered to sponsor him to the highest level of education the boy might wish to attain.

The news of Utibe’s video performance also came with the revelation that the boy’s mother, a single mom of four, is physically challenged and lived in a make-shift ‘house’ with her children.

Now, Davido has commenced the building of a decent accommodation for the woman and her children.

The musician’s action has earned him praises and prayers from Nigerians.

In the same vein, Starboy Music Worldwide act, Mr. Eazi, who also became a household name with his unique style stole the shine in 2016 with his rave single dubbed “Skin Tight” and also his chart-topping EP “Accra to Lagos” which was released in 2017.

Other African artistes vying to take home the award in the same category are; AKA (South Africa), Babes Wodumo (South Africa), Nasty C (South Africa).

Yes In the international scene, the “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist” category would see pop-stars; Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna battle it head on.

With an impressive yet highly competitive year, the highly coveted “Album of the Year” awards would also see Beyonce, J. Cole, Bruno Mars, Solange and Chance the Rapper contending for the prize.

This year’s award is slated to hold on June 25 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Nigeria Rapper, Sauce Kid Photo surfaces in U S prison

Nigerian talented rapper, Sauce kid whose real name is Babalola Falemi has not been in the news for a while.

Recently his new photo surfaced in the U S prison. Though, Sauce Kid later changed his name to Sinzu due to a reported fraudulent credit card that made U S authority declared him wanted.

Music fans will rebemer that his hit song Carolina brought Davido into the lime light.

He has been in jail in the US since 2016 at Ada County Jail, a medium security prison attached to the Idaho Sheriff Department.
