Lawyers fight in court during Naira Marley’s EFCC hearing

Naira MarleyIt has been reported that the trial of  Soapy singer, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley at the Federal High Court in Lagos has been adjourned till December 11th and 12th following a heated argument over space to seat in the court this morning.

The trial resumed for hearing today October 24th but as the judge settled in to hear the case, the lawyer representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo and Naira Marley’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, and two other senior lawyers, began to quarrel over seats available in the court.

The presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo appealed to the lawyers to bear with the government over inadequate space in the courtroom. The court rooms in the Federal High Court Lagos are usually very small.

Justice Oweibo then adjourned  the case immediately.

Naira MarleyIt has been revealed that the Naira Marley who was arrested on May 10th by the EFCC, is awaiting the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

He was arraigned in court by the EFCC on grounds of allegedly committing cyber crimes.

Naira Marley was granted bail by the court on May 30th. According to his management, the singer hasn’t been let out of the ikoyi prison because EFCC is yet to verify that he has met his bail conditions.

Sad! Naira Marley Still In Prison As Level 10 Government Officers Refuse To Stand As Surety For Him Due To Criminal records

Image result for Naira MarleyNaira Marley’s 2 million naira bail was approved last Thursday, 30th of May, 2019 to the excitement of the singer’s family, friends and Marlians (Naira Marley’s fans) as they hoped the singer would be heading home shortly after the approval. However, things have not gone as expected as the singer still remains in custody even after seven days the bail appeal was granted. Many have then begun to wonder why that has come to be as the bail approval is the biggest challenge they ought to have faced which has been solved. However, words on the street have it now that the reason the singer is still in custody is because a level 10 officer with a landed property in Lagos which is one of the criteria to meet for his release has not been found. An unidentified person on the internet has then called out the so called Marlians for not been able to provide a surety who is a level 10 government officer who has landed properties in Lagos State for the singer to meet one of the requirements for the bail process to finally fall through. He wrote; “All of una wey dey shout one mumu Free Marlians up and down, your role model is still in custody because so far no lagos State government level 10 and above officer with landed properties wants yo be a surety for him due to his criminal records “Shey una no fit carry una papa or uncle come for am as surety since ni…abi?”

How GTB, Mastercard officials, seven others to testify at Naira Marley’s trial

Image result for Naira MarleyAs information hitting Fujiipop desk revealed, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to present nine witnesses in its case against musician Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley.

According to court documents by E F C C the witnesses would give evidence of their investigation, tender exhibits and reveal their findings to the court.

Three of the witnesses were said to have taken the defendant’s and witnesses’ statements.

The remaining are representatives of Mastercard, Visa Inc and Guaranty Trust Bank, who are expected to tender relevant card and account details of the defendant to the court.

The artiste was arrested on May 10 at 9 Gbangbala Street, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos, together with Omomniyi Temidayo (aka Zlatan Ibile) and three others for alleged advance fee fraud.

After his arrest, the anti-graft agency filed 11 charges against Naira Marley bordering on alleged cybercrime and identity theft.

The alleged crimes were in contravention of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and the Cyber Crimes Act, which the artiste risks seven years in jail if found guilty.

Section 33 (2) of the Act, which Naira Marley was accused of contravening reads, “Any person who uses: a counterfeit access device; an unauthorised access device; an access device issued to another person; resulting in a loss or gain commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not more than seven years or a fine of not more than N5,000,000.00 and forfeiture of the advantage or value derived from his act.”

The charges with suit number FHC/L/178C/19 were filed before a Lagos State High Court.

Ten days after his arrest, Naira Marley was arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Justice Oweibo ordered that the artiste be remanded in custody until May 30 to take the bail application filed by the defendant’s counsel, Mrs Taiwo Oreagba.

He was subsequently granted bail to the tune of N2m.

According to court documents obtained by The PUNCH, the EFCC has listed nine witnesses to testify against the artiste at his trial.

Singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, says he has two wives and four children, who are all British citizens.

He also said he is not a criminal and has no idea what the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission found on his laptop.

Naira Marley, who claimed to be 28-years old, said apart from storing his songs and music videos, he had never done anything illegal with his laptop.

The artiste said this in his statement on oath which he made while in EFCC custody, which was obtained by The Punch.

The artiste, who identified himself as a Swedish Yoruba man, wrote,

“My name is Azeez Fashola.

“I am married to two wives and I have four kids. They are all British citizens staying in the United Kingdom.

“I studied in the United Kingdom, started studying at Porlock Hall, then I moved to Walworth School where I received my GCSE.

“My results for my GCSE are English (C), Maths (B) and Science (C).

“I left Walworth School with my qualification and went further to study at Peckham Academy, where I got distinction in Business.

“Then, I went further to study at Crossways College where I finished my Business Law; but I had kids at that time, so I took a break and started making music till date.”

According to Naira Marley, he did not own a laptop but was given one to use temporarily to upload videos on YouTube.

He said,

“I started making music in 2014 individually (sic), but now I’m signed to Marathon, a United Kingdom-based record label.

“I had a deal with Coca-Cola for my song, Issa Goal, in which I featured Olamide and Lil Kesh.

“I also had deals with Nike to participate in the Nigerian sportswear (sic).

“I’m in possession of a MacBook laptop, which I borrowed from a friend named Yad Isril in England, because while returning to Nigeria, I knew I was going to need a laptop to upload my music videos on YouTube and also to keep my exclusive songs.”

Naira Marley added,

“I’m in possession of the laptop but I have no idea what is on it apart from my music videos.”

According to the artiste, the said laptop had no password and could be accessed by anyone.

He claimed to have met Isril in a secondary school in England.

“He owns the butcher’s and an electronics shop in England. He is a British citizen, though his family is from Iraq.

“I don’t have a personal laptop at the moment because I don’t need it.

“My management team handles everything I need to do on the laptop. I only use my iPhone X for everything I do,” he said.

The EFCC had arrested the artiste on May 10, 2019 together with Omoniyi Temidayo (aka Zlatan Ibile) and three others for alleged advance fee fraud.

Following his arrest, the anti-graft agency filed 11 charges against him.

The charges with suit number FHC/L/178C/19 were filed before a Lagos State High Court.

The artiste was later arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on May 20, 2019.

Following his arraignment, Justice Oweibo ordered that Naira Marley be remanded in prison custody until May 30 to take the bail application filed by the defence counsel, Taiwo Oreagba, on behalf of his client.

This is not best of time for Nigerian singer Naira Marley. The embattled rapper,Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos this morning to face 11 charges bordering on fraud against him for alleged credit card fraud.
According to reports , the Am I A Yahoo Boy crooner arrived at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Monday, May 20, for the commencement of proceedings against him filed by the financial crimes commission.

It was also gathered that the mother of the singer could not help herself from bursting into tears upon sighting her son who has been in detention over the past days.

Recall that fellow colleague Zlatan Ibile, who was also arrested alongside the sensational music act, regained his freedom some days ago. However, Marley was held back after the EFCC reported that incriminating materials were found on his computer.
