Buhari extends stay in London, returns Sunday

edceb-buhari-campaign-photos-3President Muhammadu Buhari will not return to Nigeria from London, where he is spending his 10-day medical vacation, until Sunday.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this to State House correspondents on Thursday shortly before the commencement of a meeting of the National Economic Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari’s 10-day vacation expired on Wednesday.

By the time he would be arriving in Nigeria on Sunday, he would have spent 14 days.

He was earlier scheduled to arrive the country on Thursday.

Osinbajo, however, said it was just appropriate for Buhari to take the weekend off and rest very well in London before returning to the country.

He said he had spoken to the President on the telephone and he was in good health condition.

The Vice-President said Buhari would resume in his office on Monday morning.

Politics: Buhari clears ear infection, returns to Nigeria on Thursday

As SaharaReporters revealed, it has  been learned that doctors in the UK who examined President Muhammadu Buhari’s ear infection have cleared him to travel back to Nigeria next week.

A presidential source said  that Mr. Buhari was likely to leave London for Abuja next Thursday.

The source disclosed that the Nigerian president spent a day at a hospital in London where he underwent a series of tests to diagnose the nature of his ear ailment and a course of treatment. He declined to name the hospital where Mr. Buhari was seen.

According to the source, the doctors in the UK determined that President Buhari’s ear got infected after one of his doctors in Abuja “cleaned” his ear when he complained about a substantial loss of hearing from that particular ear. The presidential source stated that a female Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor treated the president. He said Mr. Buhari’s ear was cleaned again, and antibiotics applied to it. After just two days in the UK, Mr. Buhari reportedly proclaimed that his ear was feeling fine, according to our source.

To match Interview NIGERIA-BUHARI/

The President of Federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari  has stated that he is proposing to spend N500bn on a social welfare program that will cater for the needs of youths and other “vulnerable” groups in 2016.

Buhari wrote a letter to Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, and another one to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, which were read to members in their respective chambers.

The social welfare programme would be executed in phases and it would also take care of the school feeding programme initiative as well as the “conditional cash transfer to the most vulnerable and a post-NYSC grant” but did not categorically say whether it was meant to implement his administration’s promise to pay each unemployed person in the country N5, 000 monthly.

The president stated that the relief welfare programe will start next year as a pilot scheme and that his government would work towards securing the support of donor agencies and development partners in order to minimise potential risks.
The proposal stated:

“Government will institute policies to ensure that our students learn skills and provide funds and equipment that will make them self-employed upon graduation. This will be supported by a post NYSC grant,”

The House took the decision as soon as Dogara read the President’s letter to members.
The House agreed that the proposal was very important and urgent and that the clerk would circulate copies of the MTEF and FSP to all members in preparation for the debate today.
