Trending: You can’t extend your political empire to Edo, Obaseki replies Tinubu

The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Edo State Election, Godwin Obaseki, has faulted claims made by the National Leader of the All Progressives CongYouress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a televised broadcast on Tuesday.

Obaseki said this in a press statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie.

The You can’t extend your political empire to Edo, Obaseki replies Tinubu wasd can’t extend your political empire to our state – Edo govt tells Tinubu’.

Obaseki boasted that Tinubu cannot extend his political empire to Edo State, noting that Edo people were determined to end godfatherism in the state.

Reacting, the statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a television broadcast in which a former Lagos State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his quest to extend his political dominance and empire to Edo State, decided to take over the role of Edo people to choose through the ballot who to govern them for the next four years.

“It has become obvious that the spirited fight which Edo people have put up against godfatherism has sent tremors beyond the shores of Edo to the likes of Tinubu, who has for years sustained a stranglehold on Lagos and other states in South-Western Nigeria, hence this desperate, last-ditch effort to rescue the unproductive political instrument, now popularly referred to as godfatherism, with which he has feathered his nest and built his political empire at the expense of the people.

“Tinubu knows clearly that come September 19, when godfatherism would have been dismantled in Edo State, the people of Lagos may just have found the recipe and formula for removing the chokehold placed on their collective destinies for decades by Tinubu, hence the inciting television broadcast.”

Obaseki described the allegation that he prevented the inauguration of lawmakers in the state as “false”.

“We call on all Edo people, friends of Nigeria and all lovers of democracy to disregard all the comments by Tinubu, as the allegations about the Edo State House of Assembly and other claims in the broadcast are completely false,” he added.

The crisis in the Edo State House of Assembly began when it was inaugurated under controversial circumstances at night with only nine, out of 24 lawmakers-elect, on June 17, 2019, following a proclamation by the governor.

The lawmakers, who were not part of the process, as well as the APC, rejected the process and called on the governor to issue a fresh proclamation.

However, a Federal High Court in Rivers State barred the governor from doing so. A separate court also barred the National Assembly from taking over the Edo Assembly.

This worsened the crisis within the APC in the state and deepened the feud between Obaseki and his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, who was also the National Chairman of the APC.

The governor orchestrated the suspension of Oshiomhole from the party at the ward level. In retaliation, Oshiomhole ensured that Obaseki did not clinch the governorship ticket of the APC and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged as the winner of the primary.

The crisis in the Edo State chapter of the APC and the multiple court rulings on Oshiomhole’s suspension snowballed into a national crisis that culminated in the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), dissolving the National Working Committee of the APC causing Oshiomhole to lose his position.

An attempt by the aggrieved lawmakers to be inaugurated was, however, scuttled by men claiming to be renovating the Assembly complex.

However, the APC claimed the men were thugs hired by the governor who was afraid of being impeached.

Citizens are hungry , FG spent N30.5bn on COVID-19 in four months

The Federal Government says it spent N30.5 billion on efforts to curtail COVID-19 between April and July this year.

The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, who disclosed this, said the amount represented 84 per cent of the N36.3bn public funds and donations received by the Federal Government to tackle the pandemic.

He said there was a balance of N5.9 billion.

Idris said this in response to a Freedom of Information request jointly made by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project; and Connected Development.

SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oludare, said in a statement on Sunday that Idris, in his undated response, also indicated that “the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 spent N22 billion; while 36 states spent N7 billion on COVID-19.”

Idris, according to the statement, added that the Nigerian Air Force spent N877 million on the deployment of assets in support of COVID-19 operations; the police spent N500 million on personal protective equipment; while N17,865.09 was paid as bank charges.

While commending Idris for honouring the FoI request, SERAP and CODE, however, urged him to respond to other information requested in the FoI letter, including the specific projects on which the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 spent N22bn and the list of Nigerians who benefitted from the projects.

The groups said, “It is refreshing to note that 115 ordinary Nigerians donated between N1 and N100 to support the authorities’ efforts to fight COVID-19, despite the fact that it is the country’s poorest and most disadvantaged sectors of the population that continue to bear the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Of the N36.3 billion public funds and donations received, N1.4 billion came from Nigerians and companies through accounts at the First Bank; Access Bank; GTB, Zenith, and UBA, while N536 million donations were made through the Central Bank of Nigeria. The N536 million donations comprise of N89 million and N279 million from the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

“In addition, China General Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria donated N48 million; the Petroleum Equalisation Management Board gave N50 million while the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board donated N70 million.

“We would be grateful if the requested details and additional information are provided to us within seven days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP and CODE shall take all appropriate legal actions under the Freedom of Information Act and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights to compel you to comply with our request.”

All you need to know about $10 Billion P&IP update: Supo Shasore breaks silence , my story

7CE7D980-D268-4C06-8989-4EE1A87D6872

It has been reported that former Lagos State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Supo Shasore, has broken the silence over allegations that he let down his nation by allowing himself to be corrupted by P&ID, while also corrupting some public officials working for NNPC and the Ministry of Petroleum, with bribes totalling $200,000.

Shasore was the first lawyer Nigeria hired to defend its interest against the monstrous and fraudulent claim of almost $10 billion made by Irish company P&ID.

Sir Ross Cranston of the UK High Court of Justice Queen’s Bench Division Commercial Court put Shasore’s conduct under scrutiny in the judgment delivered on Friday, concluding that Shasore was compromised by the guys in P&ID.

But Shasore, on Saturday reacted to the allegations in the P&ID v FRN Case, saying that in the last 24 hours, he had been urged to break his deliberate silence about the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to find recourse against the arbitral award procured by P&ID based on a corrupt and fraudulent contract.

He said his choice of silence had been the result of his own high sense of responsibility as well as his commitment to the professional duty, which he undertook in representing the Federal Government in this case.

Shasore stated that he was relieved that the corrupt and fraudulent foundation of this case was affirmed in the recent ruling, though he was disappointed that part of the case made for that result was a case against him based on demonstrably false statements, unfounded innuendoes and spiteful personal attacks on his professional conduct and reputation.

“I was instructed in this matter and accepted the instructions on behalf of my firm and to the knowledge of my partners in late 2012 and I made every effort to defend and vindicate my client at every stage with very few tools and with minimal support from within the government itself.

“I represented Nigeria up until the liability stage in the arbitration. I did not represent Nigeria in the damages stage of the arbitration. Which means I was not involved when the huge sum of damages was awarded against Nigeria. The complete records will show the series of steps that I took to defend Nigeria and the several results, which I secured in that effort at various stages.
“None of these is consistent with the unfounded allegations that I failed to present the best available defense. With very little or no cooperation from relevant government officials at the time, I filed a jurisdiction objection that potentially could and should indeed have terminated the case in favour of Nigeria because it was clear to us from the beginning that the contract was a scheme against Nigeria.

“When the then Nigerian officials failed to supply documents or any witness to defend their case, I fought liability by enlisting the support of the legal adviser of NNPC who gave evidence to the best of his knowledge when everyone else with knowledge, refused to do so,” he explained.

According to Shasore, he instructed the UK firm of Stephenson Harwood, a respected international arbitration team and a leading Barrister to attempt to set aside the award on liability in England.

“We overcame numerous hurdles and faced a hostile tribunal, which relied on the testimony of a principal witness who had died before the hearing and whose testimony should have been discounted. It is on record that I fought had for the tribunal to dispense with that evidence. I am happy that the falsity of that testimony has now been recorded in the High Court in England.

‘Indeed, this was the ground on which I took the matter to the Federal High Court in Nigeria, which was the proper seat of the arbitration and successfully obtained an order setting aside the liability award. There was no basis to proceed to the damages hearing.

Celebrities, leave politics for politicians

1B154AA7-C798-4312-92DF-FE4DF6640031@igodye_ you’re a legend when it comes to the comedy industry, you have put in 25 years as a notable comedian but as your friend I have a little advice for you. Of late you’re becoming more popular with your open letter to politicians than with your craft, you have written letters to President Buhari, H.E Emmanuel Uduaghan, Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, and recently H.E Godwin Obaseki. Most of the politicians you have written letters to belongs to the ruling party, except the Edo state Governor who recently moved to PDP, but when you wrote the letter he was still a member of APC. My first question, what is your problem with APC? Who is sponsoring you? What do you intend to achieve? Despite some defamatory statement and false allegations no one has harassed or Intimidated you with any security agencies.

In your recent letter to Obaseki, you sounded biased in the letter, Obaseki is fighting godfatherism, and you and I know he was accused of not sharing state resources with politicians but instead he embarked on massive infrastructure development in the whole of Edo state. Fortunately your house in Amagba that you abandoned since 2014, Obaseki constructed the road recently and most roads around Ogunmwenyi, Waec and Gra are motorable thanks to the Governor. The Obazagbo-Irhirhi road down to Sapele road was constructed by our wake and see Governor, infact for the first time in the history of Benin someone can drive from airport road, to Irhihi, Obazagbo and come out in bye pass, and you’re one person who benefited from the road because you bought expansive land in that axis. I think H.E Godwin Obaseki Deserves Accolades
We shouldn’t just criticise government let us support them and promote their achievements. Any Governor who has performed deserves a 2nd term no matter the party, we should support credible candidates over mediocrity. Some celebrities who are fighting Obaseki are actually from Delta state but were fortunate to reside in Benin. Your state Governor has done very well in road construction and he is presently the pillar of Entertainment.

Political battle begins in Edo, Tinubu fires Obaseki

3FB9FB1F-031B-4025-8E75-7D5C066460B8The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has accused the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, of being behind the political crisis rocking the state House of Assembly, adding that the governor’s woeful leadership in the state will hopefully come to an end soon.

In a statement released on Friday August 7, Tinubu accused Governor Obaseki of ”making a mockery of Nigeria’s constitution by blocking the timely inauguration of two-thirds of the elected members of the Edo State House of Assembly, and now resorting to the strong-arm tactics of dictators.”

His statement reads

”IN DEFENCE OF CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRACY The recent actions of the Governor of Edo State represent the gravest possible assault on constitutional democracy and the rule of law and escalation of violence and tension in the state he purports to govern.

Not satisfied with making a mockery of our constitution by blocking the timely inauguration of two-thirds of the elected members of the Edo State House of Assembly, Governor Obaseki has now resorted to the strong-arm tactics of dictators.

First, he sponsors hoodlums to deface, indeed destroy, parts of the House of Assembly Building in Benin, feigning the building is undergoing renovation. Then, he imports sand and gravels to prevent access to the assembly complex.

In effect, the man has spent state funds to thwart the very apparatus of the state government he was sworn to uphold. He has squandered public money to defeat the very will of the public. This is tragic beyond words.

As a pretext for his refusal to allow the Edo House of Assembly to function, Governor Obaseki’s actions are perverse. This is a cowardly act and a move to thwart representative democracy in Edo.

No renovation has been planned for the state house building. No appropriation was made in the state’s budget. The only reason any renovation could be deemed necessary is the destruction wrought by his own goons.

Governor Obaseki’s governance of Edo State recalls the worst excesses of our military past and represents a direct threat to the democratic order by his refusal to permit duly elected members of the Edo State House of Assembly to perform their constitutional duties.

Governor Obaseki betrayed contempt for the people of his state and, unfortunately, his ignorance of Nigeria’s constitutional order. As a Governor he ought to know better than to obstruct the functioning of his own legislature, but perhaps he is in need of a quick lesson.

Indeed, it is no coincidence that of the three arms of government, the powers of the legislature are enumerated first, in our Constitution. The legislature is the authority imbued with the power to make laws for the peace, order and good governance of the federation and states

Indeed, the Constitution makes clear that a Governor’s role primarily extends to the maintenance and implementation of the laws set down for him by his state’s legislature.

Although Governor Obaseki’s conduct in the past year is undoubtedly impeachable, these legislators have made no threat to impeach the Governor. Their only desire is to peacefully perform the duties asked of them by the constituents who elected them.

The rule of law and preservation of democracy is too important to sacrifice at thealtar of any one man’s ambition. Governor Obaseki’s woeful leadership of Edo State will hopefully be brought to an end soon by the very people whose rights he has so carelessly trampled upon.

One can only hope that the damage he is doing to the most important of the state’s democratic institutions can just as easily be repaired.”

According to reports, the move was to forestall an alleged planned attack on the facility.

See Husband lures wife into prostitution

AF158D78-5909-4A50-ACFF-10D81FA11B47

Due to the challenging economic times, hunger have turned men into great desperadoes, some of them even allowing their wives to sell their pussies in order to put food on the family table.

A 25-year-old reformed sex worker from Uthiru, Kiambu County, narrated her past ordeal to BBC, reliving how in her earlier days in prostitution, she would hop into bed with every Tom, Dick and Harry to make money, with her ex-husband’s full knowledge.

She was once even banged several times by strangers, despite being heavily pregnant without her husband raising a finger to condemn her sexual exploits on the streets of Nairobi.

Purity Wanjiru’s life in prostitution was full of horrors. She recounts an incident that made her bid farewell to prostitution for good.

Back in 2016, a client offered her Ksh15,000 for the whole night in his house and promised he’d pay once they were done and dusted.

Drama unfolded along the way as the client drove home. He diverted and took the route leading to Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi.

“He had told me that we couldn’t bang in a brothel because he wasn’t comfortable spending time in guest rooms. He, instead, suggested that we proceed to his house, and promised to pay me Ksh15, 000 for the night,” says Wanjiru.

“While on our way to his house, he diverted and started driving towards Lang’ata Cemetery. When I sought to know what we were going to do in the cemetery, he shouted me down. The more I grew anxious, the more he sped and insulted me.”

“He also threatened to kill me that night. When we pulled over in the middle of the cemetery, he began scolding me mercilessly. He ordered me to strip down, I did. He ordered me to hop off his car before he sped off with my clothes.”

“ I began running towards the cemetery exit stupefied. The watchmen manning the cemetery, who included a Maasai guard, took off when they saw me, perhaps mistaking me for a ghost. One of the guards dropped a ”shuka” while fleeing. I took it and used to cover myself as I tried to find my way out of the cemetery,” said Wanjiru.

She managed to reach the exit and flagged down a taxi that took her home.

After that incident, which happened in early the mother of two daughters, swore she would never return to prostitution.

Today, she engages in garbage collection to emergency out a living.

“In a day, I make between Ksh300 and Ksh400, which is just enough for me and my children. I would rather eat a low-budget meal bought with that money, than enjoy expensive foods acquired through proceeds of prostitution,” she said

Bode George attacks Tinubu- “He’ll vomit everything he has stolen”

5ef9a525b6f33

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Olabode George, has slammed former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, saying the All Progressives Congress party leader is responsible for the reported crisis in the ruling party. thanks

Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP,  slammed Tinubu for allegedly mishandling the affairs of Lagos State, stating ”his time of reckoning was near and he’ll vomit everything he’s stolen.”

Bode George was reacting to Tinubu’s Saturday statement  addressing his purported 2023 presidential ambition and the crisis that has befallen the APC.

In the statement, Tinubu said he hadn’t made up his mind as to a 2023 presidential ambition but was rather focused on helping Nigerians during the current economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

Speaking in an interview with The IndependentNg published on Monday June 29, Chief Bode George said;

“From the very beginning, I used to tell them that the party APC is a congregation of strange bedfellows. When you have a big party like that and someone wants to hijack it, there will be problem.”

“First of all, it is a misnomer in a presidential system for a man who is not elected into any position to come out and say he is the National leader of the party.”

“How is that possible? There is only one National leader of the party and that is the President. How can a ragamuffin from somewhere just wake up and say he is the National leader and not the President? What does that mean?

” We saw the way Chief John Odigie- Oyegun was removed as national chairman. To me, what is happening to Tinubu is a judgment of God. You think you can appropriate the whole country’s resources like he did in Lagos state to your own family?”

” It cannot work! I believe nemesis is catching up with Tinubu. We warned him but he refused to listen. The Yorubas have a saying that a child who fails to listen to corrections at home will be corrected outside.

“Tinubu thinks he is wiser than everyone but the breeze has blown and exposed the behind of the hen. In Yorubaland, a single person cannot be all-in-all. Tinubu thinks he can grab everything with his teeth but they have removed all his teeth.”

Reacting to reports circulating that some of Tinubu’s loyalists are urging him to pull out of the APC, Chief Bode said;

“That is his decision. I can’t decide for him. He just issued a statement saying he has not told anyone that he wants to become President in 2023 and his focus now is how to alleviate the sufferings of the people. But you can see what he is doing in Lagos. What about Alpha Beta? Who is still collecting the money for Alpha Beta?

” Yet he said he wants to alleviate the sufferings of the people? Let him bring out all our money in Alpha Beta since year 2000 till date. The managing director of Alpha Beta who ran away said they owed him N40b.”

” That money alone would have taken care of millions of poor people in Lagos today. Enough of this brigandage and classic example of greed.”

“I have always said Tinubu will vomit everything he has stolen and the day of reckoning is here. Only Almighty God can reign yesterday, today and forever. No one else can attain that height.”

” For me, when you start seeing the signal, if he is a very clever person, he will recall himself and have a deep introspection. If he thinks he can run Nigeria the way he did to Lagos, he is making a mistake.”

“The local government secretariat of Ikoyi/ Obalende was formerly on Glover Road in Ikoyi but he converted the place to his own and moved the local government to Obalende beside the cemetery. He made the daughter the Iyaloja of Lagos. ”

“How can Iyaloja of Lagos be from Iragbiji?.  Bode asked.
“She, on her part went and locked up Computer Village, insisting that she must be paid certain amount of money. The son is the one getting all public advertisement contracts for Lagos at the moment.”

“You need to see the son’s convoy, you will think it’s the President that is moving. For how long will this continue? We came into this world naked and we will leave naked. Nobody will leave with anything no matter how much wealth you have amassed for yourself while in existence.”
