At 72, Ebenezer Obey is not scared of New Wife

obey
Evangelist Obey Fabiyi who turned 72 recently shares some of his life experiences in this interview
It is often said that anything after 70 years is bonus. How do you feel at 72?
Well, at 72, I want to first and foremost give thanks to God Almighty who made it possible for me to be alive. It’s the wondrous work of God and at 72, I feel great. I am a very happy person because the Lord has been so good to me, and I thank God for who he is because he’s been my all in all and he has seen me through different phases of life: from the time I was born, to when I started talking, schooling and working. I also thank him for bringing out the gift in me and establishing me as a star. I feel great and happy – and I can’t even thank him enough.
Can you attribute that to a disciplined lifestyle?
Before we talk about discipline, let’s talk about the grace of God and his sufficiency. The grace of God is available to everyone; so it is by his grace. Yes, with discipline added to it. But majorly, it’s by his grace. I grew up in a disciplinarian family. When my mother looked at me, I knew what she was saying without her saying anything. We were taught to respect elders. If someone was older by a day, we were taught to call him or her brother or sister. We were taught humility. And it’s been part of me since then. We were taught how to behave well. We were well-disciplined. We respected our seniors and teachers in school and it became part of my life. When I also grew up, I had a personal encounter with Jesus and that brought out the best in me in my music career. So it’s by the grace of God. To be 72 and still be relevant, that cannot be anybody but God.
Are you not still tempted to choose between secular and gospel music?
What happens is that when you are being guided by God, you can’t miss your way. You can never miss your way because God will make everything work out. I started making special appearances 15 years after I quit secular music. God gave me the gift of music; he was the one that brought out the star in me and made me become a minister. So, it is God all the way. Intimacy is what we need to have success in God. If you are divinely guided, you will do well. I always have a direction. When I have special appearances, God gives me direction in a way that one doesn’t contradict the other.
But one thing about music talent is that it’s irresistible.
I have drawn the line. Where I am now, nothing can take me away from God. I have a focus. Nothing can take me out of God’s presence.
Can you blame your fans who want more of what you used to sing?
No. God is love. When you do things out of love, you make people happy. I don’t hurt them. Even now, people have known me for who I am and I even attract respect for that. I also believe the respect people give me is by the grace of God.
When you started the special appearances, people thought maybe Obey was probably broke.
I’ve said it and I am still saying it. There are two things we have to define here; what do we actually need here on earth? We don’t need all the vanities of this world, yet God created them so that we could be comfortable. All my needs, God has already provided. I don’t worry myself. I’m at peace with my God. When I clocked 70, I said, “Father, I give you all glory.” When I look back, all I say is “Father, thank you.” There are no more rivers for me to cross; I am not running after anything. I have put my life in God’s hands. So, who says I’m broke? It’s because they don’t know the God I’m serving. The God I’m serving is a good provider. I have come to realise God is faithful, so there’s no running helter-skelter.
How do you feel being celebrated by Globacom while you are still alive?
Oh, I feel great. I feel excited for Glo, and for the man called Mike Adenuga, Jnr. He is a special person that God brought into this world for many reasons. I cherish what Glo did in celebrating me; it is one thing I really appreciate. For someone to sit down and think of others is a special thing. That the Glo Evergreen Series started with me, I really appreciate it.
Before he started Glo, was Mike Adenuga one of your fans?
Of course, yes. He loves my music, but the love that Mike Adenuga has for me is beyond music. Yes, talking music, he loves my music but now I can see it is beyond that. He is God-sent and we can see, he’s a man who touches life, and because of that, he is blessed every second.
When he extended that gesture to King Sunny Ade recently, did you nominate him or what?
No, Mike Adenuga started the Glo Evergreen Series with me and extended it to my brother KSA whose work in the entertainment industry is awesome. Even with the younger artistes, KSA is awesome.
Recently at KSA’s birthday in Ondo, he dedicated a very big church in his compound. People are insinuating that probably what happened to you will happen to him. Do you see KSA also becoming an evangelist?
You know what Jesus told Peter? “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” I am happy for what is happening to KSA dedicating a church and you cannot be surprised that God is preparing him for His work.
People are still talking about ‘Oleku’, the joint show between you and KSA, should we expect series two?
People have been asking for more here and even abroad. But we are yet to determine how to go about it. But we will extend it at God’s appointed time.
In retrospect now, what inspired you to sing those evergreen songs that are still relevant even today?
That can only be God because it’s not every artiste that has the gift. But I thank God for the gift. Now I go to secondary schools on principals’ invitations to give talks. The one I did last in Ibadan, I was surprised to hear the questions the students were asking me. They wanted to know how I became a musician, my experiences, my songs, etc. I sang for them. It was an exciting moment. They wanted to know how a young man composed those songs 30, 40 years ago. So, I just thank God for that gift. And for the new generation artistes, they are doing well and I’m happy for them.
One would expect that you will encourage your son Tolu to pick up the mantle as you are aging
He wanted to do music and he’s doing it. I am happy seeing him do it, now that he’s even cut a niche for himself. Tolu plays juju music. There is nothing bad in it. I encourage him to do what he wants to do.
But you encouraged others to be pastors.
Those who are pastors are pastors because that’s what God wants them to be. I’ve never forced any of them to be this or that. I taught them the way of the Lord and they know what they want, so there is nothing like force anywhere. All I care about is for them to serve the Lord.
People think you also influenced Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, the Oshinle of Egba to become a born-again Christian. Who influenced who?
Oba Adewale Adedapo Tejuoso became one of my fans a very long time ago and even all his friends. So the relationship started since that time. When I quit music and got into the ministry, he too had his own ministry, even as a king. We met after that and our relationship got to a higher level. When he wanted to start Kings’ Day of Praise where he gathered fellow kings to worship God, he invited me and I was willing to help. I am happy that the yearly programme has become a very big event in his kingdom and I am also proud to be associated with it. Through that, the royal fathers come together to worship God. They pray and God does wonders.
What has been the impact of the programme on Egbaland?
It’s not only traditional rulers from Egbaland, we have the royal fathers from all parts of Nigeria and other African countries.
Do you still miss your wife?
Oh, there’s no way I won’t miss her. But I know she’ s gone to be with the Lord. My wife would have been 69 years old on March 24 if she was alive. We would have been expecting to celebrate her 70th birthday next year. But the Lord is a good Lord. On March 23, we had my first great granddaughter. My granddaughter gave birth to my first great granddaughter and I am clocking 72 in a few days. So, we are in a thanksgiving mood.
How do you cope without a woman in the house?
There is nothing God cannot do. He is able to take care and be in charge of everything. I am not lonely. Immediately my wife went to be with the Lord, my son and his wife moved here. So with my grandchildren around me and people taking care of me, I feel great.
What of getting married again?
At 72, I can’t start looking for a wife. I’m well taken care of and occupied. I am not lonely and I doubt whether any woman would be able to cope with my busy lifestyle. My late wife got used to it and for years, she was able to take care of our home.
Or you are afraid of what people will say?
Afraid? Can someone of my age be afraid of what anybody will say? Let people say whatever they want to say, I have my life to live. I’ve not given marriage a thought and that’s the truth. I’m busy in the church, with mentoring and special appearances. By the Grace of God, I’m oganising a crusade to celebrate my 72nd birthday.
People thought if Pastor Kumuyi could marry another wife after he lost his wife as a church leader, you too could follow in his footsteps.
It is a thing of choice. It’s the Holy Spirit that leads every church leader. What Pastor Kumuyi did is a very good thing. I don’t feel like doing that and I’m happy. Apart from that, no woman can cope with my schedule. Well, God can do anything; he can provide someone to take her place, you can’t rule that out because we are still alive and well.
Who took over your wife’s position in the church then?
In the service of God, you don’t say because my wife is gone, someone should replace her. She went to be with the Lord. My son is the pastor in charge of the church and his wife is there to support him like my wife did. We also have other pastors whose wives are supporting them. You don’t necessarily say since my wife is gone, we need to find someone to replace her unless I decide to marry someone from the church. But for now, this is the way that the Lord has made it.
Concerning waxing records, how often do you do that?
I do that all the time. People know that I am good; and I am a very good composer. The easiest thing for me to do is to compose. So I still do special releases for people.
Your evergreen series are supposed to be lifetime sources of income for you, how do you cope with piracy.
You see, piracy is the main problem that we have here. But I do special releases for people and those ones cannot be pirated because they are not for public consumption, though people still demand for some of them. So when they demand for such, I get paid.
What about royalties from your old songs?
I’m in charge of my music. I handle my company, so I cannot complain about anything. I oversee everything. Artistes only complain about recording companies. I have gone above that. I am a recording company myself. I am Mr. Music.
Perhaps if you did not become a musician, do you think Obey would be this famous?
I don’t want to bother myself about that. I’ve been what God wanted me to be, and I am fine.

Atiku’s son wedding update: My in-law picks Dubai for my son’s wedding not me Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar Explains

atiku

I just like the fact that he is trying to make his life an open book. But seriously, this will make you love him more. Read this;

Sometime in January, I was in London on business, and my children quickly arranged a trip to the Emirates Stadium for me. It was to emerge later that it was not a hastily arranged event, but a well planned outing, put together by children of a businessman and politician.

It turned out that my son, Abba, who was appointed to be my escort to the event, was the primary reason why the event was set up in the first place. Abba had a major announcement to make, and it was that while he was away fro home in America, he had found a lady he loved, and would love to bring her home as wife. I thought that was great news!

But on our way home, Abba subtly mentioned that they would like to get married as soon as possible, and that he and his fiancee would like a rather small wedding. At that point, I began to realize why I had been taken to the match, and smiled.

Parenting in the age of democracy is not easy. In my time, I remember that even as a strong willed child without a father figure, my mother, Kande, would put her foot down whenever she needed something to be done, and no child could argue with Kande when she had put her foot down. But in my time, we had learned to allow our children have a say in decision making, especially those which concerned them. It’s what I have termed democratic parenting.

Education, for example, is where my children tend to have a 70% say in where they wanted to go. Some choose to study in Nigeria, and some went abroad. But even when they went abroad, it was mostly to Europe. But Abba decided he was going to America, and he came back with an intelligent, beautiful American lady, whom I have already accepted as a daughter.

But Abba was yet to reveal his hand. It was when we were discussing wedding logistics, when he mentioned that his wife’s family wanted to hold the wedding in Dubai! I could smell an ambush coming, and the Nigerian parent in me was ready to argue.

“But Abba, you know I’m a Nigerian. We like doing these things at home…”

“But dad, you know the wife’s family decides these marriage things”

“I see. But does your wife agree to this?”

“My wife loves it! She is completely in love with the plans”

“Oh, I see…” At that moment, I realized that my children had known I would prefer to host the marriage in Nigeria and had come up with, and knowing that I wouldn’t have a choice, since the wife’s family usually decides wedding plans, found a way to ambush any resistance I could have raised. It was a well executed plan, and I could see that there was no way I could argue. Of course no man would want to argue with his new in-laws at the first turn.

So I went back and put together a counter strategy. The next morning, I called Abba and told him I agree with the entire plan. We can hold a wedding in Dubai, and I will attend with my family. I could see a smile of satisfaction spread across his face, an unspoken “we’ve got the old man.” I played along and discussed the plan with him in detail.

As we finished, and Abba was about the leave the room, I mentioned in an offhanded tone “Oh, Abba, I think after the wedding in Dubai, it would be good for your people in Jada to welcome your new wife to Nigeria. What do you think?”

Inside my heart, I smiled. Just like they had me a day earlier, I had had him too. He could not argue that it wasn’t proper for his extended family and town to meet his new wife. Of course he knew that would be the event where all my family, friends and associates will be invited.

The Nigerian parent in me smiled. Even in the age of family democracy, we have learned to adapt. So all family and friends are welcome to Jada, to witness the marriage reception of my son, and his beautiful wife.

Men Beware!!! After 10 men, Bukky Wright talks about her kind of man

bukkkkkky

Delectable 47 year old Nollywood Yoruba actress, Bukky Wright has revealed in a recent chat with The Sun her kind of man. Read her:

“I am attracted to God fearing and good looking men. I don’t like fat men. I love tall dark and slim men.I don’t like deceitful and uncaring men. I could die for a very caring man. I’m a very romantic person so I love romantic men; I love surprise gifts. As a young girl growing up I read a lot of Mills & Boom. I like my man to surprise me with gifts; it sweeps me off my feet. I don’t like men that wait for you to ask before they give. I like men that are in control and know what to do. But I notice that with most men, if you don’t ask you don’t get.”

Ngozi Braide rescues Obesere’s Rape Mess by @tj_shetade

police

obesere

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide has defended the role of embattled Fuji Music Star, Abass Akande Obesere on the rape case he was involved in recently.
It was learnt that the Lagos State Police has given Obesere a clean bill of health to the scandal that almost rocked his career to its very foundation.
The Police, according to Braide, has identified the supposed rape victim of being a blackmailer, while she reportedly exonerated Obesere, claiming that the case was a step.
In Braide words via a press statement sent to us, “Investigation so far carried out by the Police showed that it was a frame –up because the lady has refused to honour Police invitation. And we have a doctor’s report that showed that she was not raped. Before you prosecute a case of rape, there are certain facts that must be proved. In our investigation, we are made to understand that this lady on her own went to Obesere’s house in search for Obesere, that she located Obesere’s house and spent the night there. She was there cooking and everybody in the house ate”.
Braides also established in her statement that there was a case of mutual relationship between Obesere and the lady.
Update on the case is that Obesere has entered studio to record and share his experience on the controversy that nearly finished his career in the public.
The record will be released any moment from now.

We Will Not to Release Sanusi’s Passport-DSS Vows

Marylin-Ogar

Sequel to the ruling of the Federal High Court in Lagos, restraining the Police and Department of State Service (DSS) from arresting the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the DSS Friday said it will appeal the judgement.
Justice Ibrahim Buba, had while delivering judgement in suit filed by Sanusi, also awarded N50 million damages in favour of the suspended CBN governor as well as ordering the DSS to immediately release his international passport.
But, the DSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, in a statement said the judgement was not acceptable, saying that the Service has taken steps to appeal the judgment she described as “erroneous”.
She also insisted that the DSS acted within the law in impounding Mr. Sanusi’s international passport, adding that it will not be released as ordered by the court.
Ogar’s statement reads, “Following the ruling by Honorable Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court Lagos on the application for the enforcement of fundamental rights by the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Department of State Services (DSS) expresses its disappointment and dissatisfaction with the judgment.
“The Service has taken immediate steps to appeal this rather erroneous judgement. Notwithstanding, this Service holds and continues to hold the judiciary in high esteem as critical partners in nurturing our democracy and nation building.
“It is therefore necessary to state that in impounding the passport of Mallam Sanusi LAMIDO, the Service acted in accordance with the law. For the avoidance of doubt, section 3(2) (b) of Instrument SSS No. 1 of 1999 made pursuant to section 6 of the National Security Agencies (NSA) Act, provides as follows:
“The State Security Service is hereby empowered to impound and keep in its custody the passports or any other property of persons or organizations under investigation if considered appropriate by the Director General. Returns of all such seizures shall be rendered to the National Security Adviser, while such passports shall be returned to the Owners as soon as the investigation is concluded”.

Adeyeye Supporters Declare Support For Fayose

Ayo-Fayose

In a rare show of sportsmanship, Afenifere chieftain and one of the leading governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dayo Adeyeye, on Thursday, publicly announced his commitment to the success of the party in the June 21, 2014 governorship election.
The duo of Adeyeye and the governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr Ayodele Fayose, addressed supporters of the Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) in Ado-Ekiti , where they declared their unity in their party’s bid to defeat Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June 21 election.
Adeyeye, who had before Fayose’s arrival addressed his supporters on the need to remain in the PDP, said; “As loyal party men, we must abide by the decision of our party leaders and work for the success of the party.”
While addressing the crowd of supporters, Fayose, who described Adeyeye as “a formidable figure in the PDP, who cannot be ignored,” while speaking at the reconciliatory meeting, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint Adeyeye as a member of the Federal Executive Council to replace Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, who resigned recently to contest the party’s governorship ticket.
At meeting held at the secretariat of the PAAM in Ado Ekiti, thousands of members of PAAM and those of the Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation and many other members of the party witnessed the formal reconciliation.
At the meeting, which saw the coming together of the two major groups in Ekiti PDP, they pledged to unite for the sake of the PDP in the election and promised to join forces to “dislodge the APC from power in the state for the sake of Ekiti and the Ekiti people.”
Addressing journalists; Adeyeye who called on other aggrieved aspirants to sheath their sword said; “nobody can be more aggrieved than me among the aspirants on the conduct of the primaries. This is because we had worked very hard to build the most formidable structure in the PDP, and with our structure, we were sure of wining in a free and fair primary election. But as a party man, I have to forget the past and work for the emergence of our candidate at the poll.”
On the agitation for zoning of the governorship ticket to the South, Adeyeye said; “I was one of those who fought vigorously for zoning of the governorship to the South, but the authorities, I mean the powers that be, didn’t see it that way.
“As things are, 2018 is not a long period of time and I am sure the South Agenda will be realised then.
“Therefore, we in PAAM have resolved that we will not join any other party because we believe if we come together and win the election, everybody will be brought on board. So to us, there is no victor, no vanquished.”

Alleged Killing of Fulani, Al-makura Calls For Review of Military Operation

Al-makura-on-feud-e1396633532684

Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has called on the Federal government to review the military operation in the state to guide against extra judicial killings.
The governor made the call on Friday in keana, when he paid a condolence visit on the paramount ruler of Keana,’Osana of Keana’ Emmanuel Elayo, over the alleged killing of scores of herdsmen during a military operation on Wednesday in the area.
According to him, the casualties of the Tuesday’s operation were herdsmen resident in keana and not insurgents as widely reported by some national dailies.
He however, stressed the need for the operation to be reviewed to focus on tracking the real insurgents traversing the borders of Benue, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Plateau, Taraba and Kogi states.
Al-Makura, who disclosed that he was not informed of the military operation until it was underway, emphasised the need for traditional rulers to be duly informed of such operations in their locality in order to avert the incidence of innocent casualties.
The governor called on the people of the area, especially the herdsman to remain calm and not to take law into their hands.
He assured the people that adequate measures were being put in place to avert such incidence and promised that the issue would be reported to the military authorities and the President.
He maintained that the community based approach of resolving the farmers/ herdsmen feud in the state was yielding results and would be improved upon.
Responding, the Osana of Keana, Emmanuel Elayo, described the incident as “unfortunate” as the herdsman and farmers in the area were working hard to fish out criminal elements infiltrating their ranks to cause mayhem.
Elayo, acknowledged that most of those killed were resident in his domain and had lived peacefully with other ethnic groups in the area.
He said 10 corpses were brought to his palace by the herdsmen, while three others were receiving treatment at the hospital following the operation.
He urged the people of the area to eschew all forms of violence as no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancour.
Meanwhile, the Nasarwa state Commissioner of Police, Idris Ibrahim told Prompt News Online that the unfortunate incident would not jeopardise the pact signed by the farmers and herdsman in the state.
According to Ibrahim, youths from the warring groups were in his office on Friday to reassure him of their commitment to the peace pact initiated by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. By Godwin Kingsley, Lafia

What a pity!!!Erastus Akingbola Runs Into Stormy Waters Over Plan To Regain Intercontinental Bank

Erastus_Akingbola1

Just like the story of resurrection, Dr. Erastus Akingbola, the then Managing Director of the defunct Intercontinental Bank, has made a return to make a claim over what he termed as unlawful takeover of his bank.

The banker is banking on some facts that the bank was unjustly taken away from him by the Lamido Sanusi led CBN. Now that he saw a chance in the suspension of the number one banker in the country, Erastus Akingbola is seeking new ways to convince the authority that he was indeed cheated out of the deal. But, in a twist of event, his comeback is also shedding light to some of the things that went down before the take-over.

According to sourced information, Akingbola, who has been involved in several law suits, home and abroad bordering on allegations of stealing and diversion of billion of depositors’ funds, was also alleged to have bought properties in the United Kingdom and purchase of shares for himself. Akingbola was also accused of manipulating its share price in the stock market.

Information revealed that the banker did not bargain for some of the things that are coming out now that he has decided to search for what he termed as justice.
Meanwhile, not too long ago, there was a judgement that was delivered by Mr. Justice Burton of the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London that nailed Akingbola for fraud; Akingbola who was ordered to refund N165bn believed to have been stolen from the Bank through various deceitful means.
According to some industry watchers, Akingbola, with his new sympathy soliciting moves is only trying to exploit the current situation to bury some of his unwholesome practices while in office such as granting and guaranteeing loans to his companies to the tune of N16bn in respect of Tropic Finance and unlawful share purchase scheme of N145bn and about £10.5million in respect of Furgler Payment claim.
The people who presented this fact backed their claim with the submission of one Jimoh Ibraheem, the Bank’s Chief Inspector who was persecution witness in the high profile case of fraud and stealing against Dr. Erastus Akingbola, detailed how funds were ferried to the offshore account of Dr. Akingbola.
Led in evidence by defense counsel, Godwin Obla, Abdulraheem told the court that he was once invited by the EFCC to give statement about the movement of funds from Intercontinental Bank to various companies account on the instruction of Akingbola while he held sway as Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank.
He went on to identify a copy of the statement he wrote on 28 January, 2011. Obla consequently urged the court to admit the document as exhibit but defense counsel, Felix Fagbohungbe, SAN objected, arguing that he needed time to study the document. The objection was over ruled by the court and the document was admitted as exhibit.
Another document authorizing the transfer of £1.3 million was also tendered by Obla. After certifying that he recognized the document, the witness informed the court how he was ordered via an instruction memo to transfer the sum of 1.3 million pounds to the account of a British Law Firm, Fulgers Solicitors.
He continued that the instructions were carried out and the funds were transferred to the account of a British Law Firm, called Fulgers Solicitors.
Counsel to Akingbola said the documents tendered are not original and urged the court not to admit them as exhibits. Obla responded saying the originals have been misplaced as stated by the witness in the process of investigation. He referred the court to section 97(1) C of the Evidence Act which said copies of documents can be admitted. The objection was overruled by the court and the documents were admitted as exhibit.
Another document tendered by Obla was a letter written to the Bank (Intercontinental Bank Plc) by one Corporate Securities Nigeria Limited requesting that the Bank should make a payment of 10 billion naira for some shares purchased for the bank. The letter listed how the payment was to be made to some companies. These companies are: Tropics Securities, Bankinson Nig. Ltd, and Tropics Properties.
The letter was signed by Bayo Dada, who is a co-accused. The witness said that instruction was also carried out as the funds were taken from pre- payment account of the Bank and credited to those companies. He said while investigations commenced, the Bank management asked him to conduct investigations as to the movement of cheques issued to those companies and it was discovered that the three cheques have been deposited in those companies’ accounts at Access Bank.
Further investigations revealed that the companies were linked to Akingbola and his wife, Antonia. Jimoh said the instruction to effect payment was given by Akingbola through verbal instruction. A certain Mr Fabunmi then raised a memo to effect it.
Another 8.6 billion naira was also taken from the bank through the same General Ledger manipulation. Dr. Akingbola had written a letter instructing that the said sum should be credited to the accounts of Tropics Properties Ltd., Bankinson Nig. Ltd and Tropics Finance Ltd around May and June, 2009. Through the same manipulation, the sum of 3.35 billion naira was also moved via an instruction given by Tropics Finance Ltd. to Bankinson Nigeria Ltd., a company where his wife, Mrs. Antonia Akingbola has interest.
Also on the 15 May, 2009, the sum of N350 million was paid into the account of Intercontinental Homes, N500 million was paid to the account of Intercontinental Securities and another N250 million was paid into the account of Intercontinental Capital Market, all subsidiaries of the Bank. The said payment was effected based on a letter dated 18 May 2009, received from Bayo Dada of Tropics Finance. The witness said this particular transaction was manipulated as the date of transfer on the statement varied from the day the instruction was received.
The sum of N1.550 billion was also moved fraudulently on the 22 May, 2009 in the same manner. An instruction from Akingbola was passed to the bank for the said money to be moved into the accounts of Tropics Finance Limited and Associated Discount House. The sum of 1.5 billion was moved to Tropics account to be fixed for one month while 50 million naira was paid to Associated Discount House to pay off debt owned by Tropics Finance Ltd. By this, Dr. Akingbola and his associate Bayo Dada are standing trial on a 22-count charge bordering on stealing of over N42.4 billion from the defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc.
Yet to be absolved of these heinous allegations.
In a related development, one of Erastus Akingbola’s properties located at 19 Embassy Court, London NW8 9SX was sold yesterday for £5.7 million pursuant to the judgement of Mr. Justice Burton of the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London ordering him to refund the sum of N165bn to Intercontinental Bank now a part Access Bank Plc.
